Batak Church goers nowadays have keener ears in church than at home. If there is a strange noise, like the cry of a baby, or something tumbling during the church service, worshipers will look over their shoulders to see what is going on. Unfortunately, at home it is just the opposite. You come to deliver a letter, or a thing. You knock the door. Dogs come barking, possibly to tell their masters about the visitors. As their masters do not come to answer the door, you knock again louder and the dogs bark even louder. Often, they take pity on the retreating visitors, regretting their failure to notify their masters effectively, who are at home relaxing watching TV or reading.
